Team Leadership for First-Time Managers

Understanding teams as systems and the leader’s role in shaping performance

Leadership extends beyond exchanges with individuals. While conversations with team members are essential, leaders who understand the team as a system — including the dynamics, interdependencies, and white space between people — are better positioned to fulfill their mandate.

This program introduces first-time managers to practical team leadership principles. Participants explore the conditions that enable people to perform at their best, along with the leader’s role in shaping environment, alignment, and effectiveness.

Target Audience

This program is designed for supervisors, team leads, and frontline leaders who are either currently in role or preparing to transition into their first people leadership position. It’s particularly valuable for professionals moving from peer to first-time leader, and is ideally suited for those who hold, or are expected to hold within the next 12 months, direct line authority over others.

Note: Professionals without formal reporting responsibility may find greater relevance in the Leading without Line Authority program.
